Who We Are
The White River Township Fire Protection Board was established on December 16, 1986, with the primary purpose of improving the quality of fire protection services within the jurisdiction of the White River Township Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.
At that time, fire protection services consisted of a single fire station housing one engine company and a supporting water tanker. Coverage for the District’s twenty-six square miles—then largely comprised of farmland and a small number of residences—was provided by a dedicated group of volunteer firefighters responding from home.
Since the inception of the Fire Protection District, significant growth and advancement have occurred. While the District continues to serve the same twenty-six square miles, the area has experienced rapid residential and commercial development and is now among the fastest-growing communities in the State of Indiana.
The District’s strategic direction is guided by a mission and vision focused on protecting lives and property while serving the community through innovation and excellence. The Department remains committed to meeting the evolving needs of the community while maintaining a strong and fiscally responsible foundation.
The White River Fire Protection District board meeting is held on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm. The meeting is held at Station 53 (Dept Headquarters) located at 366 North Morgantown Road, Greenwood, IN 46142, and is open to the public.
