EMS Chief

Rodney Hayes

EMS Chief Rodney Hayes brings more than four decades of fire and emergency medical service experience to the White River Township Fire Department, joining the organization in 2019. He began his career in 1979 as a volunteer firefighter with Otter Creek Township Fire Department before being hired by the City of Terre Haute Fire Department in 1981. While serving there, he attended paramedic school and became a licensed Paramedic in 1990.

Later that year, Chief Hayes joined the City of Beech Grove Fire Department, where he served for 15 years and advanced from Firefighter/Paramedic to Operations Chief. In 2005, he became a Battalion Chief with the Bargersville Community Fire Protection District, retiring in 2011. Following his retirement, he continued working in emergency medical services, including serving as an Assistant Field Supervisor with IU Health Bloomington Ambulance Service.

Chief Hayes joined the White River Township Fire Department in August 2019 and currently serves as EMS Chief. He values the Department’s strong leadership, dedicated personnel, and commitment to service, and considers it an honor to serve in a leadership role alongside the men and women of the organization.
