child seat safety program
The White River Township Fire Department is committed to protecting children through its Child Seat Safety Program, a public safety initiative focused on reducing injuries and fatalities related to improper child passenger restraint use.
The Department operates a permanent child seat fitting station available during normal business hours. Life Safety Officer Craig Zollars is certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor (CPST/I). The fitting station is staffed by nationally certified child passenger safety technicians who inspect child safety seats and provide hands-on instruction to parents and caregivers on proper installation and use.
Statistics indicate that four out of five child safety seats are used incorrectly, which significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death in a motor vehicle crash. Proper installation and education are critical components of child passenger safety.
This program is funded by the Governor’s Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving, with technical support provided by the Automotive Safety Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
