Child Seat Safety Program Saves Lives

The White River Township Fire Department of Greenwood Indiana is promoting a child passenger safety public service geared to protect Hoosier children’s lives on the nation’s highways. We have a permanent fitting station available during normal business hours.  Craig Zollars, our Life Safety Officer holds a CPST/I certification which is the Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor.  This permanent fitting station is staffed by nationally certified child passenger safety technicians who will inspect car seats and instruct families on how to properly secure them in their vehicles.  Statistics show that at least four out of five car seats are used incorrectly.  Improper use of a child safety seat can lead to severe injury and or death.  Parents and caregivers can call the White River Township Fire Department at 317-888-8337 to schedule an appointment to have their car seat installation checked.  Also, adults will be provided material and instruction on proper child passenger safety and car seat installation.

The Governor’s Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving is funding this program with technical support provided by the Automotive Safety program at the Indiana University School of Medicine.  For more information, call toll free at 800-KID-N-CAR, or visit the program’s Website at www.preventinjury.org.
