Lightning strike causes early morning house fire

White River Township Firefighters responded to an early morning house fire caused by lightning.  The residence located in the Highland Park Sub-Division was struck as a line of powerful thunderstorms rolled through the area around 5:30am.  According to neighbors in the area, they heard a loud "clap" of thunder about 6:15am.  They walked outside of their houses and noticed smoke coming from the roof of the residence and called 911.  Firefighters from White River Township and Greenwood Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.  The homeowner arrived early into the incident and stated that they had just sold the residence and was scheduled to go through inspections early next week.  To see a related story from WRTV 6, click HERE.
