Firefighters train for building collapse
White River
Township firefighters conducted specialized training this week at an abandoned
house on Stones Crossing Road in northwest Johnson County. Members of the
department's Special Operations Team conducted live drills involving a simulated
building collapse where the object of the exercise was to shore up parts of the
structure and make it safe to operate in. The Special Operations Division
of the department deals with tactical situations that require specialized
equipment and training to mitigate, such as building collapse, confined space
entrapment, high-angle rope rescue, trench collapse, and water rescue. Use
of the house, which was heavily damaged by a fire earlier this year, was donated
by the Mount Auburn United Methodist Church.
