Former WRT firefighter laid to rest
Former White River
Township Fire Department firefighter Douglas L. Garrison, 63, was laid to rest
yesterday after passing away on July 17th following a sudden illness. Mr.
Garrison was with the department from early 1989 to late 1991 and was one of the
first reserve firefighters to ever be hired by the agency. He was also a
longtime firefighter for Nineveh Township Fire Department in southern Johnson
County where he also served several years as Fire Chief. "He will be
sorely missed", commented one of the firefighters in attendance. "He did a
lot for the department and a lot for the fire service", he added. Because
of his deep ties with the Johnson County fire service, Garrison was honored with
a full firefighter's funeral. Firefighters from all around Johnson and
surrounding counties joined in the ceremony that culminated with a service and
burial at the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood. Some photos from
