Covering the Johnson County Fair
In addition to helping with the Local 4252 Strawberry Shortcake tent near the midway, the White River Township Fire Department also provided firefighters for fire protection at the fair on Tuesday. Providing fire protection during one of the days of the fair is a responsibility shared by all fire departments in Johnson County, with each department providing coverage on its assigned day. Some of the days are co-staffed with more than one department since there are more departments than there are days of the fair. Fortunately, the number of incidents reported so far this week have been down, as compared to years past, according to one official.
The Johnson County Professional Firefighters Union Local 4252 is selling
Strawberry Shortcakes all week from its booth near the Emergency Services tent
at the entrance to the midway. This is the fifth year for the booth, which is used
as a fundraiser for the Union. Each of the members volunteer time
throughout the week to sell loaded strawberry shortcakes for $5.00 each. All profits are then
distributed to various causes, including the Hoosier Burn Camp and for
educational opportunities for firefighters. More information on the Johnson
County Fair can be found by clicking
