Department upgrades air-packs
The
White River Township Fire Department recently upgraded all forty-seven (47) of
the department's air-packs to a newer model that meets current National Fire
Protection Standards guidelines. The air-pack is a device used by
firefighters to provide them with clean, breathable air in a hot, smoky environment.
The Scott ® brand air-packs are equipped with thirty-minute bottles and a heads-up display to
indicate to the user when the bottle is getting low on air. The packs also
have advanced telemetry technology which allows the incident commander to view
via a computer screen the status of each user's pack working at an fire scene.
This feature will allow the incident commander to know when a crew's bottles are
getting low and to begin recycling them. The new packs are currently being
inventoried and crews have been training on them over the past few weeks.
They should be placed in full service within the next month.
