Man uninjured after driving into pond

A 60-year-old man drove into a utility pole and then a pond in the Center Grove area Thursday.  Center Grove area resident Charles Fox lost control of his vehicle before driving into a pond near a subdivision on Bluff Road, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. Fox escaped from the pond on his own, and a dive team rescue attempt was called off.  The single-vehicle accident took place about 6:20 p.m. Thursday near Bluff Road and Stephen Drive.

Fox was taken by ambulance to Community Hospital South in Indianapolis to be examined because he passed out before veering off the road, White River Township Fire Department spokesman Jim Engmark said.  He suffered no apparent injuries from the accident, and his vehicle did not sink deeply into the pond, Engmark said.  Fox told police that he last remembered reaching down to grab something as he neared an intersection and then found himself in the pond.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
