Department hosts Awards Banquet
The White River Township Fire Department held its 58th annual Awards Banquet last evening in the banquet hall at the Moose Lodge in Greenwood. Over 120 people were in attendance that included both department employees as well as several area dignitaries. This year's event consisted of a fully-catered dinner by Squealers BBQ Restaurant of Mooresville, followed by a speech outlining highlights from 2009, the awards presentation, and then a year-end video screening. The awards, spanning several categories, are given to department employees for service excellence and other areas of recognition in commemoration of the year 2009. The two highest awards, Employee of the Year and Officer of the Year, were awarded to Jeff Bowden and Nick Alford, respectively. Jeff is a member of the department's maintenance division and Nick is a Lieutenant on the C-shift at Station 51. Both were commended for their commitment and motivation demonstrated consistently throughout the year. Other awards included EMT of the Year, which was awarded to Firefighter/EMT Nathan Poff, and Paramedic of the Year, which was awarded to Firefighter/Paramedic Steve Snider. Cadet of the Year was Shelby Ferdinand. The department also handed out several five, ten, fifteen, and twenty-year service awards, recognized and had sworn-in three new full-time employees, as well as recognized a multitude of public and private service agencies.
