Eight possibly exposed to meth

White River Township firefighters responded to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin earlier this evening to assist the hospital and Sheriff's Department with individuals potentially exposed to the products of a meth lab operation.  A total of eight people, including four young children, were transported to the hospital for evaluation of possible methamphetamine exposure after police raided their home earlier in southwestern Johnson County.

White River Township Fire Department houses the county's decontamination unit, which is a specially-designed trailer capable of mass-decontaminating individuals who have been exposed to a toxin.  Firefighters trained in hazardous materials decontamination assisted the individuals with the gathering of clothing and showers.  All of the individuals were given clean and dry clothing and then admitted to the hospital for further evaluation in the emergency department.  Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
