Busy year for department

       For the first time in four years, the department's call volume has decreased over the previous year.  However, even with the slight decrease in overall volume, the total number of incidents still ranked as the second busiest on record in the department's fifty-eight year history.  The White River Township Fire Department responded to a total of 1,978 calls for help in 2009, compared with the top-ranked 2,108 calls in 2008.

         The fire department also tracks calls for its ambulance, which is provided and managed by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service.  The ambulance is housed at Station 52 on Meridian Parke Lane and responds to calls within the White River Fire Protection District.  Additionally, the ambulance also responds to calls outside the district to assist other fire departments.  These additional out-of-district calls accounted for an additional 1,024 calls for a grand total of 3,002 total incidents reported.

        The final call tally for 2009 within the fire district was 1,978 calls, of which 701 were fire-related responses and the rest, or 1,277 were medical-related.  The following is a detailed breakdown of the various call types as reported to the National Fire Incident Reporting System:
