Paramedics deliver baby in fire station
A
woman and her husband were on the way to a birthing center in
Indianapolis when the woman went into labor around 9:30 a.m. this morning.
Another person in the vehicle called 911 and was instructed by dispatchers to
drive to White River Twp Fire Station 53, which was along their route of travel. Engine 53,
which was finishing up on another call at the time, was dispatched back to the
station to meet up with the vehicle. Other firefighters already at the
station opened up the bay doors and motioned the vehicle to drive into the bay.
Engine 53's crew arrived shortly thereafter. At 10:02 a.m. a baby girl was
delivered by paramedics in the back of the vehicle inside the station's bay.
Both mother and baby were doing fine and transported to Methodist Hospital in
Indianapolis by Rural/Metro Ambulance.
