Fire heavily damages dump truck

Firefighters from White River Township responded to a dump truck fire on State Road 37, just north of Smith Valley Road in northwest Johnson County earlier today.  The fire was well-involved upon arrival requiring the need for additional water from the department's tanker unit.  Although the fire was brought quickly under control, the truck suffered severe damage.  The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was driving down the highway when his brakes locked up starting the fire.  He was able to escape without injury.  Traffic on the highway was backed up for about an hour while the fire department cleaned up the scene and doused hot spots.
