Man sentenced to prison in arson case
A
Greenwood man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for setting a woman's
clothing and bed on fire. Zachary Bova, 25, also will spend five years on
probation after his release from the Indiana Department of Correction and pay
$10,000 in restitution for damage he caused to the woman's home. Bova
pleaded guilty to arson, a Class B felony, and was sentenced during a court
hearing last week. Originally, he also was charged with battery resulting
in bodily injury, confinement and residential entry, but those charges were
dropped as part of a plea agreement with the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office.
In April 2008, Bova broke into a woman's home while she was not there, set her
clothes and bed on fire and used spray paint to write profane insults on the
wall, according to a police report. When the woman returned home, Bova
grabbed her, slammed her to the floor and pinned her down for a short time
before she was able to escape to a neighbor's house, the report said. Bova
will receive credit for 403 days he spent in jail awaiting court proceedings See a
