Police investigating accident
A sport utility vehicle flipped into a ditch along Morgantown Road after driving through Center Grove area yards and running over at least one mailbox, according to a police report. Police arrived at the scene about 11:15 p.m. Sunday and saw the driver climb from the vehicle, the report said. The man was taken to Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was not arrested.
Police forwarded a report to the prosecutor's
office, which will determine whether charges will be filed.
Officers smelled alcohol on the driver, and
his eyes were red and glassy, according to the report. Witnesses told
police they saw the SUV, which did not have its headlights on, flip into the
ditch while southbound on Morgantown Road near Old Smith Valley Road, the report
said. The SUV ran over a mailbox, continued south and crashed against a
tree, which tore off the passenger-side front tire and shredded a rear tire,
according to the report. A White River Township firefighter found a
marijuana-smoking pipe in the front pocket of the driver's shirt.
