Firefighters train in auto extrication
As part of their
daily shift routine, White River Township firefighters train for a variety of
different scenarios covering everything from a medical emergency to a high-rise
fire with entrapment. This week, firefighters are working on automobile
extrication techniques at the Hick's Wrecker lot on Bluff Road in Indianapolis.
Firefighters are given different situations involving trapped victims inside a
vehicle and then utilize the various equipment available to them. During
the process, firefighters are taught the latest in techniques, equipment, and
new vehicle technologies that may pose problems during such an event. In
White River Township, firefighters train as a group each week on a different
discipline, such as emergency medical services, firefighting, or special
operations. Outside of these department-wide weekly trainings,
firefighters train at the individual crew level on a daily basis as well.
