Firefighters Receive Live Wire Training
A stuffed squirrel, Mylar balloons, and
two hot dogs. What do these things have to do with training firefighters?
Duke Energy spent two hours educating firefighters from WRTFD on the dangers
of live wires and how to mitigate incidents involving live wires. Duke
Energy employees demonstrated what will happen when contact with live
electrical wires is created. The unwilling participants included the stuffed
squirrel, balloon and the hot dogs. This demonstration shows the power of
electricity and firefighters must understand how to operate safely around
the live power lines until the utility company can arrive on scene and
confirm that the equipment involved is no longer charged.
Special thanks to Duke Energy
for bringing the mobile safety trailer to the fire department to conduct the
training.
