White River Twp Firefighters visit FDNY
Thirteen members
of the WRTFD traveled with 59 other metropolitan firefighters
to "buff" and fellowship with firefighters from New Jersey and New York. The
group left at 6 am on Thursday morning and returned Sunday evening. Two
charter buses transported to the firefighters to the east coast. The trip
was planned by Battalion Chief Steve White of the Fishers Indiana Fire
Department. Chief White is a native of New Jersey and has put this trip
together for the last seven years. Friday morning the group traveled to New
York City to visit the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) training academy
at Randall's Island. Along with visiting "The Rock" as the training academy
is known, firefighters visited Ground Zero and several fire stations
throughout New York City. Saturday morning the firefighters traveled to
Sussex County New Jersey to take part in the annual fire equipment
inspection parade. The Hoosier firefighters won trophies for best out of
county color guard and furthest distance traveled. Newton and Boonton New
Jersey Fire Departments hosted the group for dinner on consecutive nights.
All WRTFD members stated that this was a very memorable trip and many plan
on attending again next year.
