Firefighters called to extinguish residence fire

       White River Township Firefighters were dispatched to a residence fire on Almond Court. Upon arrival firefighters found a fire in the mulch in the front of the structure. Neighbors were attempting to extinguish the fire which had spread to the basement of the two story residence. Firefighters battled heavy black smoke in the basement and quickly brought the blaze under control. The homeowner advised that he was alerted to the fire by the smoke detector activation inside his home. No one was injured in the blaze. Greenwood and Decatur Twp. Firefighters assisted with the blaze.

    Fire Officials believe an improperly discarded cigarette was the cause of the fire.
