Earthquake rattles residents
A rare, but
significantly strong earthquake rattled the entire Midwest earlier this morning.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the 5:38 a.m. temblor
registered 5.2 on the Richter scale. An earthquake of that magnitude can
cause minor property damage and wake people from their sleep. The USGS
also states that individuals should expect a serious of lesser-intense
after-shocks over the next few days, and that there are no indications of an
increase of geologic activity expected. At press time, the epicenter
appeared to be in southeast Illinois but shaking and vibrations could be felt as
far away as Cincinnati and Chicago. There were no major reports of damage
or serious injuries. There were no calls for help in White River Township
as a result of the incident, however there were many callers who called 911
reporting the event.
