Burn victim remains in serious condition

A Center Grove area woman remained in serious condition about a week after she suffered second- and third-degree burns in a house fire.  June Deaver, 68, was still in the burn unit of Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis on Friday.  She received burns to the upper right side of her body in a fire that started in her bedroom at 177 Innisbrooke Ave. the morning of Feb. 16, White River Township Fire Marshal Eric Brown said.

Deaver lives with her daughter and son-in-law, Roxie and Pete Convery, in their home west of Fairview and Morgantown roads.  A lit cigarette sparked the fire on Deaver's bed, where she was sleeping, Brown said.  The family has arranged for a place to live, fire department spokesman Jim Engmark said.  Roxie Convery made it out of the house and suffered minor injuries from inhaling smoke. Pete Convery was not at home during the fire.  Damage was estimated at $65,000, Brown said. The most severe damage was to a hallway and Deaver's bedroom. The rest of the house sustained smoke and heat damage.  See related stories HERE and HERE(Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
