New fire station opened

After nearly four-and-a-half years in the making, the new fire station at 3016 W. Olive Branch Road is officially open.  The station replaces a much-older facility on Runyon Road that was originally built as a volunteer firehouse and never designed to meet the needs of today's round-the-clock fire service.  Additionally, the department is in the midst of realigning its future fire stations in order to best serve the needs of the entire community.  A letter from the Fire Chief outlining the move in more detail can be read by clicking HERE.

The new station has the capability of housing twelve on-duty firefighters at any one time, however the department will only be staffing nine for the time-being.  A meet-and-greet has been scheduled for early December for the residents immediately surrounding the new facility who will be notified by a flyer in their mailbox.  Although an official public grand-opening has not yet been set, it is anticipated that it may be next spring before the event takes place.  In the meantime, the public is always welcome to visit this, or any station, by pre-scheduling an appointment with the department by calling (317) 888-8337 during normal office hours and asking for someone in the Fire Prevention Division.  This is to assure someone will be present during your visit.  Details of the entire eighteen months of on-site construction can be found by clicking the links at the bottom of the page displayed by clicking HERE.
