Cyclist in fair condition

An Indianapolis cyclist suffered head injuries after a motorist collided with him in a turn lane on State Road 135 in Greenwood on Sunday night, police said.  Johnathon Herndon, 18, 21 N. Colorado Ave., Indianapolis, was in fair condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis on Monday afternoon.  Herndon was riding his bicycle southbound when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Mariah L. Kerry, 19, 8870 S. Keystone Ave., Indianapolis, Greenwood Police Assistant Chief David Mertz said.

Kerry, who was not injured or cited for a ticket, was northbound on State Road 135 just north of Eau Claire Drive when she merged into the turn lane to go to a bank, a police report said. Kerry didn't see Herndon until it was too late to avoid him.  He suffered severe bleeding, a contusion and fracture, Mertz said.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
