New tool for fire safety education
White River Township Fire Department recently took delivery of a new tool for the delivery of fire safety education. "Patches", the animated Dalmatian dog and fire truck robot, made his debut at the Hampton's Market cookout back at the end of June. The equipment is designed to replicate the department's paint and graphic schemes and can perform a variety of tasks. He moves, speaks, listens, plays audio recordings, winks, and blinks, all by remote control. Patches and his fire truck are just the right size for teaching children because he can communicate with them at their level. He is agile enough to maneuver easily in school classrooms and other restricted areas. With Patches' friendly, furry face, he presents a positive image to all, while he steers his fire truck around the room. His headlights, taillights, and flashing warning lights make him highly visible. This, in combination with educational materials such as coloring books, crayons, pencils, and stickers, is intended to keep the department's fire prevention message on the minds of the children long after they leave the program.
