Department honors former fire chief

       Firefighters from White River Township joined with firefighters from Greenwood Fire Department in saluting former Greenwood Fire Chief George Melton during a funeral procession earlier today.  Melton died Wednesday at the age of seventy-two.  The procession proceeded up State Road 135 from Main Street where department members and equipment were staged along the highway for the salute.  The procession continued along 135 to Fry Road where it paused in front of Station 92 for a twenty-five second moment of silence, one second for each of Melton's years of service.  Melton served as Fire Chief from 1976 to 1980.
