Worker injured in trench accident
An employee of Bloomington-based Reed & Sons Construction, Timothy Patton, 47, was seriously injured earlier today when a pipe he was working on broke under pressure. The incident occurred near the intersection of Stones Crossing and Morgantown Roads where crews are working on improving the intersection. The force of the water from the break slammed Patton against the back wall of the open trench he was working in. He sustained a severe head injury and was initially unconscious upon arrival of the fire department. White River Township Fire Department paramedics treated Patton and transported him to Wishard Hospital via a Rural/Metro ambulance where he was listed in serious condition Tuesday night.
The exact cause of the incident is currently unknown, but according to other workers at the scene, the company was moving a water line and was in the process of tapping the existing line when the accident occurred. Water service to area residents will not be affected, according to Bargersville Water Company representatives.
