Firefighters attend service
Seven White River Township Firefighters attended the funeral service of Charleston, South Carolina Firefighter Mark Kelsey yesterday. Firefighter Kelsey, along with eight other firefighters, lost his life battling a fire at a furniture superstore on June 18th in Charleston. His body was returned to his native hometown of Washington, Indiana, where he was laid to rest on Tuesday. This was the last of the nine services held for the firefighters.
Hundreds of firefighters from all over Indiana and the rest of the nation were packed into the Washington High School gymnasium for the service. Included in the contingent was the Mayor of the City of Charleston, its Fire Chief, and nineteen of the city's firefighters. The emotional service included the traditional "last alarm" bell ringing, a twenty-one gun salute, and the playing of "Taps".
