Crews participate in Federal exercise
White River Township firefighters and support personnel earlier today took part in the largest Federal terrorist exercise in the nation's history. The Hazardous Material Mass Decontamination Team and the Collapse Rescue Team joined several other Johnson County agencies at the Mascatatuck Urban Training Center just outside North Vernon, Indiana. White River Township and other crews were dispatched to simulated incidents caused by terrorism and weapons of mass destruction throughout the area. The hazardous materials decontamination team worked with the Greenwood Haz-Mat team in completing one exercise while at the same time the collapse rescue team worked to free civilians trapped in a simulated building collapse. Personnel from the White River Township Fire Department worked from 10 pm Friday night until 7 am Saturday morning. Because of the extended hours, the department's rehabilitation unit was also on location providing support services for crews as needed. See a related story HERE.
