Department improves to Class 3
The White River Township Fire Department received an improvement in its Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating earlier this month to a Class 3 department. It was previously a Class 4. The ratings, supplied by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), are awarded based on results of a comprehensive analysis of fire suppression delivery systems for a given community. ISO is the leading supplier of statistical, underwriting, and actuarial information for the property and casualty insurance industry. Most insurers use the PPC ratings for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes. Communities are awarded a rating on a scale of Class 1 to Class 10, with Class 1 being the highest. There are less than fifty Class 1 departments in the country.
All White
River Township Fire Protection District properties located within 1,000 feet of
a fire hydrant are currently in the Class 3 area. Those outside this range
are considered a Class 9. ISO will advise its subscribing insurers of this
classification change within the next thirty days and assign an effective date
of July 1, 2007. For more information on ISO, click
