Fire destroys vacant house
An early evening fire swept through a vacant house on Sutton Park Drive yesterday shortly after sundown. The fire was brought under control in less than thirty minutes but not before the structure was largely destroyed. The rapidly-growing fire had already vented itself through the front windows and doors by the time firefighters had arrived. Twenty-four firefighters from all three White River stations responded to the scene along with an Engine Company from the Greenwood Fire Department. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters remained on the scene for several hours assisting investigators and dousing hot spots. No one was hurt during the incident and, as of press time, the cause of the blaze was still under investigation.
