Cadets perform training exercises
Firefighter Cadets from the White River Township Fire Department took part in several practical drills last evening at a nearby training site. The drills consisted of various forcibly-entry and bail-out procedures involving doors, windows, and wall breaching. Each member of the group had to function as part of a team working together to solve complex exit and entry simulations. The training session took place at an old strip mall on State Road 135, just south of Main Street. The building is being razed to make room for a new strip center. The building was donated to the fire department for use just prior to the demolition, currently scheduled for next week.
Cadets are high-school-aged individuals who wish to learn the skills of being a firefighter as well as experience the training first-hand. The program, established in 1977, is supervised by a handful of senior firefighters who act as program advisors and mentors for each of the students. For more information on the Cadet Program, click HERE or select "Cadet Program" from the drop-down menu above under "Divisions".
In addition to the department's cadets using the structure for training, the department's firefighters will be using it as well, right up until the building comes down. They will be working on forcible entry, ventilation, as well as search and rescue techniques.
