Accident traps two victims

The White River Township Fire Department responded to State Road 37 and Smith Valley Road earlier today on a two-vehicle, high-speed accident with entrapment.  The occupants of one of the vehicles, a driver and front seat passenger, were unable to exit their car due to the severe damage.  The vehicle was a small Mazda 626 that was rear-ended by a full-size passenger van.  Entrapped in the car were a female driver and a male passenger who each had very minor injuries.  However, because of the severe damage to the car, both had to be extricated from the vehicle.  “It appeared that the driver only had minor cuts from flying glass” said Joe Green, Lieutenant on Engine 53.  The passenger had no complaints and was treated and released at the scene.  “The impact was so strong that the driver seat was broken loose from the floorboard,” said firefighter Greg Maxwell.  The driver was transported to Community Hospital South for observation. The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to the hospital as a precaution.
