Garage destroyed in fire

A fire destroyed a garage in the El Dorado subdivision in the Center Grove area Monday evening.  Noel McClintock, who owns the home at 3355 Scramble Drive, suffered minor facial burns and refused treatment by paramedics at the scene.  No one else was injured.

McClintock was cooking when he heard popping sounds coming from the garage.  Firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze, but they believe it started in the garage.  The house likely will remain uninhabitable for two or three months, interim White River Fire Department Chief Scott Cassin said.  Firefighters were able to salvage some possessions, including family photos.  In the thick smoke, they also found a cat hiding under a bed in the back bedroom.  McClintock suspects he'll be spending much of his time the next few days finding a company to help clean up his house.  "I can't believe it happened to me," he said. "I'll just be thinking of what needs to get done."  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
