Toy Drive 2006 wrapping up
Members of the White River Township Fire Department, their families, and Student Council students from Center Grove Middle School North helped wrap Christmas presents at the finale of the 2006 toy drive earlier this week. The toy drive, which is held every year at the Meijer store on State Road 135, has helped this year to provide toys and clothing to 40 families encompassing 82 children throughout the township.
Today
will “wrap up” the 2006 Annual Children's Toy Drive with stacks of Christmas
gifts being wrapped for children in the White River community. The Johnson
County United Way, Meijer, Center Grove School Corporation, and the White River
Township Fire Department have teamed up for the sixth year in a row to help
collect, wrap, and deliver Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the
fire district. The United Way collects names of those individuals who may be in
need of some help with the holidays and then forwards the list to the fire
department. Firefighters then spend two week-ends early in December collecting
gifts, earmarked for specific children, at the Meijer store in Greenwood. All
of the gifts are then wrapped at a "wrapping party" and then delivered via fire
truck during the week before Christmas. This year the campaign met the goal of
100% of the names sponsored. Special thanks to all those who helped make this
year an overwhelming success, including the Greenwood Meijer Store, the Johnson
County United Way, Center Grove Middle School North, and all of the private
donors who contributed both gifts and money.
