Eight injured in three accidents
Three accidents in the Center Grove area injured eight people and kept emergency workers busy Friday afternoon. Two of the accidents involved motorcyclists out during unusually warm weather. Emergency workers had difficulty responding to all the accidents because of traffic from holiday shoppers. Six people were taken to hospitals and two were treated at the scenes of the accidents, said Jim Engmark, spokesman for the White River Township Fire Department. Names and ages of those injured were not available Friday evening.
The two most serious accidents involved motorcyclists. Both happened at 4:45 p.m. A woman and a man riding on a motorcycle were taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with serious injuries after they crashed into a utility pole at Olive Branch and Berry roads. Both riders were conscious when emergency workers arrived, and both were wearing helmets, though they fell off when the people hit the ground, Engmark said.
Another accident involved two motorcyclists at State Road 135 and Main Street. The riders were side-by-side on the road when they struck the side of a vehicle. It was unclear how the accident occurred, Engmark said. One of the motorcyclists and the driver of the car were treated at the scene. The other motorcyclist was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis with critical injuries. It was unclear whether the person was wearing a helmet, Engmark said.
A third accident, at 5:05 p.m., sent three people to local hospitals. Engmark was unsure how the accident at State Road 135 and Fry Road happened, but he believed the accident was not serious. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
