Department receives new Haz-Mat equipment
The White River
Township Fire Department recently took delivery of a new Hazardous Materials
Decontamination Trailer and a Ford F550 flatbed truck to pull it. The new
truck and trailer combination unit will be used county-wide for any major
hazardous materials spill response. The equipment will be used as part of
an agreement between county agencies that specifies certain response components
be provided by assigned departments. White River's component is
decontamination of affected victims and equipment. Therefore, firefighters
are receiving specialized training to support this component of the response.
Franklin and Greenwood Fire Department's are the other current providers of
equipment and personnel. The trailer was funded through a grant received
by the Johnson County Emergency Management Agency and the flatbed truck was
provided by the fire department. All of the new equipment processing and
personnel training is expected to be completed by the first of the year.
