6-year-old girl killed in collision

       A 6-year-old girl was killed and five people were injured in a two-car accident in the Center Grove area Tuesday.  The girl's 9-year-old sister and their mother were taken to a hospital in Indianapolis. The mother was not seriously injured.  No information was available about the extent of the 9-year-old's injuries, Johnson County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Doug Cox said.  Two female passengers and the man who was driving the second car were also taken to Indianapolis hospitals.

         The accident happened just after 4 p.m. in front of Friendly Village mobile home park on County Line Road west of Peterman Road.  Police are investigating the cause of the accident, but they said this is what appears to have happened:  The mother of the girls was driving a Cadillac heading east on County Line Road. The man was westbound. Police say the man drove his Oldsmobile left of the center line and struck the car carrying the mother and daughters. Police said they will investigate to find out why he crossed the center line.  A witness said it appeared the man was trying to avoid hitting traffic that had stopped so someone could turn into the mobile home park.  Mikael Sink, 16, said he saw the accident happen behind him, stopped his car and rushed to try and help. Several other people came to the car and pulled the 6-year-old out of the Cadillac while her mother was trapped in the car, he said.  One man tried to give the girl CPR, he said.  The girls had been secured in their booster seats, police said.  Air bags deployed on both of the vehicles, police said.

         A second two-car accident happened nearby after the first crash. One driver stopped suddenly because of the first accident, and another vehicle rear-ended the vehicle. No one appeared to be seriously injured in the second accident, police said.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal.)
