Firefighters visit day care center
White River township firefighters from Station 51 and the Fire Prevention Division visited the Honey Grove Day Center earlier today to deliver a fire safety message. The department's program was administered to a group of approximately ninety children ages three to six. The educational curriculum consisted of various fire prevention aspects such as Stop, Drop, and Roll, fire escape plans, and the importance of smoke detectors.
Firefighters utilized the department's Fire Safety Trailer as the backdrop for today's lesson. Children are able to practice their skills when inside the trailer and learn from them by actually experiencing several presentations. The trailer is equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment as well as a full host of simulators to simulate different emergencies that may occur in the home. The trailer is utilized extensively throughout the year delivering the department's fire safety messages to thousands of children around the district.
