Firefighters respond to two-alarm fire
Twenty-one
White River Township firefighters responded on Monday evening to assist at the
scene of a fire at the Indianapolis Power and Light generating station on south
Harding Street. The call came in at 5:21 p.m. from the Perry Township Fire
Department who requested help at the two-alarm fire. Over sixty firefighters
from five departments helped battle the fire that originated when a boiler
ignited nearby plastic sheeting and wood scaffolding. The sheeting and
scaffolding was in place due to construction on the second through fourth floors
in the area of the boiler. Only one minor injury to a firefighter was
reported. Power generation was not affected because the area involved was not
being used at the time. The fire was brought under control in just under two
hours. No damage estimate was available at press time. Photos
