Fire Prevention Week under way
Fire Prevention Week officially kicked off on Sunday and by Monday morning the White River Township Fire Department was already busy visiting each of the district's five elementary schools. Each school will be visited, one school for each of the five school days, to deliver the department's fire prevention message.
Fire Prevention Week, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), runs from October 8th through the 14th and this year's campaign is "Prevent Cooking Fires - Watch What You Heat". More fires start in the kitchen than in any other part of the home. Therefore, White River Township Fire Department will spend the week focusing on teaching children and parents alike on preventing these types of fires and how to practice safe cooking in the kitchen. The White River Township Fire Department will also be holding an Open House in
conjunction with Fire Prevention Week at Station 53 tomorrow night, October
11th, from 5pm to 8pm. Free food, information, and station tours will all
be available. See a related story HERE.
