Department pays tribute

Members of the White River Township and Bargersville Fire Departments, along with various dignitaries from throughout Johnson County, paid tribute this morning to those lost in the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks.  The ceremony, opened up by the White River Township Fire Department Honor Guard, was held at the White River Township Government Center on Stones Crossing Road in Greenwood.  The fifth anniversary event included a moment of silence that coincided with the exact time that the south tower of the former World Trade Center in Manhattan collapsed.  A ceremonious bell rang in memoriam.  Before that fateful day in 2001 was over, 343 firefighters would lose their lives while attempting to save those trapped in the upper floors of the twin towers.
