Man injured after crash
A Greenwood man was taken to the hospital after his vehicle crashed into an Indiana American Water building early Tuesday. Joseph A. Demott, 24, was treated by paramedics from the White River Township Fire Department and taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with severe leg pain at 2:40 a.m., according to the accident report.
Demott said he thought someone had turned in front of him, causing the crash. Police suspect he may have been drinking because a beer bottle was found on the floor of his vehicle, according to the report. A witness told police Demott was traveling about 50 mph west on Fairview Road and ran a stop sign at Morgantown Road. The vehicle then went off the road and crashed into the water building at 6905 W. Fairview Road.
Police are awaiting the results of a blood
test to determine if Demott was drinking or had drugs in his system.
Damage to the building and vehicle was estimated at $50,000 to $100,000,
according to the report. Demott's condition was unavailable Tuesday.
