Department plans for road closure
The White River
Township Fire Department is getting ready for the third and final phase of a
road construction project involving Smith Valley Road, one of the district's
most-traveled roadways. Beginning tomorrow, the Johnson County Highway
Department will be installing barricades along much of Smith Valley Road between
State Road 37 and Morgantown Road. The road is slated to be widened and
improved along this entire one and three-quarter stretch. Because of this,
department officials have temporarily re-districted portions of the area west of
Morgantown Road. This will assure the quickest response possible during
the four month project. Although the road will be closed to
through-traffic during most of the construction period, the highway department
will make provisions for allowing emergency traffic through should an incident
occur along that stretch of Smith Valley Road.
