Victim dies in traffic accident
Firefighters from
White River Township and Bargersville responded to a reported serious accident
at the intersection of Smokey Row Road and Honey Creek Road earlier today.
Upon their arrival, they found a pick-up truck that had collided with a
fully-loaded cement truck trapping the driver of the pick-up truck. The
man, who was unconscious, was trapped in his vehicle for about twenty minutes
while firefighters and paramedics worked to free him. Lifeline Helicopter
was dispatched and landed in the front yard of a home near the accident scene.
The victim was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he later died
from his injuries. Witnesses state that the driver of the pick-up truck
crossed the center line and into the path of the cement truck. The cement
truck tried to avoid the collision, but was unable due to the narrow highway.
The road was heavily damaged by the accident as the contents of the cement truck
spilled onto the roadway. The driver of the cement truck was not trapped
and received only minor injuries. No further information was available at
press time pending notification of the victim's family.
