Lightning strikes Barrington home
Thirty-four firefighters from three departments spent nearly three hours at the scene of a residence fire in the Barrington West subdivision on Friday night. The fire consumed much of the attic of the two-level home but firefighters were able to stop the well-advanced fire from destroying the rest of the home. Fortunately, the fire started and was contained to the attic, however there was heavy smoke and water damage throughout. Firefighters from White River Township, Greenwood, and Bargersville were on scene of the overnight fire to battle the blaze. Although four firefighters were injured, none of the injuries were considered serious and only required minor treatment at the scene.
The fire was
started when lightning apparently struck the home a few hours earlier. The
homeowner was home at the time and heard a loud crash from the lightning but
thought it hit somewhere in the back yard. The family was fortunately able
to escape unharmed upon noticing the fire. No damage estimate was
available at press time.
