Long distance response
The White River Township Fire Department responded its Tactical Support Unit to Nineveh on Monday evening to help with a house fire there. The Nineveh Township Fire Department requested the unit to assist with the filling of air bottles and lighting. Many of the county's fire departments were busy at the time with several incidents occurring simultaneously. This, coupled with the need for specialized services, prompted the twenty-one mile response for White River. "The TSU (Tactical Support Unit) was specifically designed to make such runs anywhere in the county", said Battalion Chief James Engmark. "If someone needs it, we'll send it", he added.
The fire in
Nineveh was likely started by lightning following a severe thunderstorm that
passed through the area moments before the call. No one was home at the
time of the fire that damaged much of the roof, the garage, and a second-story
bathroom. One firefighter from Amity was slightly injured when he was hit
on the head from falling debris and was treated at the scene.
