After
two years of planning and developing, the Station 51 construction project is
officially underway with ground-breaking taking place earlier today. The
nearly $3M project is slated to be completed on or around April 30th, 2007.
The new station will replace an existing station that is on Runyon Road in the
center of the fire district. The new location is in line with the
department's long-term strategic plan and will allow for much improved service
to a large portion of the district.
The building was designed with the future in mind. Because the building is
being constructed of certain quality materials, the structure is expected to be
in service for a minimum of seventy-five years. Therefore, the building
will need to meet both the demands of today as well as those long into the
future. Additionally, the property that the new station is located on is
part of the Herron Ridge subdivision and therefore must comply with certain
covenants and restrictions within the community, such as exterior colors and
roof styles. "The new station will be a nice blend architecturally from
the residential subdivision to the west to the commercial subdivision to the
east", said Scott Senefeld, the project's chief architect.
On-site progress meetings will take place every two weeks and a Construction
Update Report with progress photos will be issued via the department's web site
about once per month. Copies of construction drawings are located below and
are in Adobe Acrobat format. Simply click on the desired link to open the
