Department purchases parade truck
White
River Township Fire Department took delivery of a "new" truck today with the
arrival of a 1952 Dodge pumper. The truck was purchased with contributions
from the department's local union members. The truck will eventually be
restored to look similar to the department's first real fire engine, a 1954
Dodge. Several of the union members had been looking for a similar truck
for years and finally came across something close. The price was right and
the union voted to make the purchase. The truck will be used for parades
and other similar functions when it is complete, which is however not expected
for several years. "It will be a work in progress", said Captain Kevin
Skipper, who spearheaded the project. "It will take time and money, and
we'll get there, just not overnight", he added. The truck was purchased
from a junk yard in South Dakota and shipped on the back of a flatbed truck.
